Why I Write

I have always loved to write. I love writing about people—their lives, their relationships, and especially their feelings.

But two years ago, writing became something more.

I lost my fiancé, my soulmate, to cancer, and it broke me. I truly didn’t know how to carry on my life without him.

I did the one thing I knew to do. I wrote.

A Postponed Romance tells our story—the story of a love we found forty years after we first met. It allowed me to put into words a love that changed my life and to honor the remarkable man I was blessed to love.

Then came Heart of Scars. The words came as if from an open wound. They were raw, and they were real.

Now, when I sit in front of my laptop, writing gives me a place to escape. It’s also helping me find my way forward.

I write about things real people may face in their lives—depression, betrayal, trauma, the wounds we carry from childhood, redemption, loss and grief, love and hope, overcoming the past, finding God in our lives, and discovering the courage to look toward the future.

I think God gave me the gift of writing for a reason. If I reach that one person who needs my words at that particular moment, then I believe I am doing what He called me to do.

One of the Bible verses that has always meant so much to me contains the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

And someday, when I stand before Him, I hope He says that about the way I used the gift He gave me.
